Year 4 Independent History Project

During the last 2 weeks of term, Year 4 students will be asked to present to the class without using a script. They can choose any period of history or historical figure of interest to them up to World War 1. They can use posters, models, costumes etc to aid their presentation. Time will be given during history sessions to prepare.
The focus is on ‘correct use of oral English’.

The Great Fire of London

Year 4 have begun a new History topic,  The Great Fire of London

Use these facts and anything else you can find out to add to our Year 4 History Revision Guide. You can post comments on the blog if you find out some interesting information and we will put all the information together during our History lessons.

The fire started on 2nd September 1666 at 2am in a baker's shop in Pudding Lane.
A plaque at the site where the fire began.
The fire spread quickly and we have researched into some of the reasons why. Click here to find out more. Why did the fire spread so quickly?

The fire lasted for 4 days and the events where recorded in a diary by Samuel Pepys who was a friend and advisor to King Charles II. Click here to read more about Samuel Pepys and The Great Fire of London. Samuel Pepys and his diary.

Fun with Books

During Book Week, Year 4 have been using ideas from fantasy stories such as 'Alice in Wonderland', 'The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe' and 'The Wizard of Oz' to try to write our own fantasy stories.
We also enjoyed reading our Dinosaur Books to Year 2 and listening to 'The Quiltmaker's Gift' read by a special guest...

Thank you Alejandra Acaroni for reading us such a beautiful story.

Science Week

This week Year 4 had to solve a scientific problem. Ten mysterious substances had lost their labels so they had to work together as a team of scientists to work out if they were solid or liquid and try to discover what the substances could be. We had a lot of fun!
